No Day But Today

I’ve had a crazy year which explains my absence from my blog. But today is the day that I graduated from Ithaca College. I am closing the door on the last four years of my life here on this beautiful campus, but I’m also leaving a little crack in the doorway.

That crack will shine a sliver of light to remind me of where I came from, how I started, the lessons I’ve learned, the memories I’ve made and the people who’ve helped me get to where I am today. It will remind me of the challenges, the sleep-depriving essays, the endless days, and the stress-filled nights.

This light from the crack in the door of this journey will charge my body with warmth and motivation to keep striving with the knowledge and power I have gained at IC.

As I walked across the commencement stage to shake the hand of our college president and accept my diploma, a new door has opened. I feel the cool, fresh, and inviting breeze that it brings. I know this new journey will be a battle, relocating and finding the right career, but I also realize it will be filled with lessons, laughter, and love.

My family has prepared me to be the best that I can be, that practice (and hard work) makes perfect. My school has helped me to channel that energy into my work ethic. And now I am here today, four years later, with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Most of all, I’d like to thank my grandpa.

Ever since I was a little girl, and maybe even when I was in my mother’s belly, he taught me how to be the best version of myself. To not stress over things we cannot control, to laugh as loud as we want, to go for a stroll around the neighborhood when the weather was nice, to eat as much chocolate ice cream as we want, and to love endlessly.

My grandpa taught me that there is no day but the present. So thank you, grandpa, for leaving your door cracked to shed your light on me.

No other road,

No other way,

No day but today.

  2. Dani, I am so proud of you I could burst! You took your college experience by both hands and mined it for everything it was worth, and more. You made it more. And now you’re on the the next phase of greatness. Love you so much. Aunty Rosie
